Key Ingredient:
Prawns
Ingredients:
⦁ 500 grams prawns, peeled and deveined
⦁ 2 onions, finely chopped
⦁ 2 tomatoes, chopped
⦁ 1/2 cup yogurt (curd), beaten
⦁ 2 tablespoons oil
⦁ 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
⦁ 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
⦁ 1 green chili, slit
⦁ 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
⦁ 1 tablespoon coriander powder
⦁ 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
⦁ 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
⦁ Salt to taste
⦁ Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
⦁ Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
⦁ Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
⦁ Add ginger-garlic paste and slit green chili. Sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
⦁ Add chopped tomatoes to the pan. Cook until they are soft and oil starts to separate.
⦁ Reduce the heat to low. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
⦁ Add beaten yogurt (curd) to the pan. Stir continuously to combine with the masala mixture. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the yogurt is well incorporated and the oil starts to separate.
⦁ Add prawns to the pan and mix well with the masala. Cook for 5-6 minutes until the prawns turn pink and are cooked through. Be careful not to overcook the prawns as they can become rubbery.
⦁ Sprinkle garam masala powder and mix gently. Cook for another minute.
⦁ Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and remove from heat.
Serving:
⦁ Serve hot Prawns Masala garnished with more fresh coriander leaves. Enjoy with steamed rice or your favorite Indian bread.
Recipe Notes:
⦁ Adjust the spice levels according to your preference by varying the amount of red chili powder and green chili.
⦁ Be gentle while cooking prawns to retain their tender texture.
⦁ Prawns Masala tastes best when served immediately while hot and fresh.
